5 ways to get slimmer & fit body on Ramadhan

Ramadhan is the most efficient way to keep your body fit and healthy while at the same time drawing closer to Allah s.w.t.. During this period of month is when people usually grab the opportunity to discipline themselves physically and mentally. Variety ways people tried to find the best diet for maintaining their body shape, but the best way to maintain your body fitness is through following our Prophet’s style of eating habits.

 

In a timeless hadith of our Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) regarding healthy eating habits, he mentions:

“A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air.” [Ibn Majah]

We all surely have the same thought of losing weight during Ramadhan. Yes indeed, we should be focusing on our deeds for the sake of Allah s.w.t.. But notice this. Does our body gets thinner or fatter? Admit it, most of us eats according to our lust and appetite when breaking fast. Neglecting the nutritional balanced diet and body health? That’s a typical situation for someone that starves through out the day. Then, we regret eating too much and not knowing what to do about it. Tarawih prayers helps to balance back the physical condition of our body. But for some, that is not enough. We usually get too little physical movement during Ramadhan. Well, here are some tips that may boost in losing weight while collecting deen, as exercise is also one of the ibadah.

 

Follow these 5 tips for a fit healthier body in Ramadhan

 

1. Planning physical activity

  • Do 15-45 minutes of light exercise such as walking, house chores, gardening, and etc. It is good for blood circulation during fasting.
  • Less sleep. More sunnah prayer. Probably burn 60-80 calories (according to your weight) with prayers 5 times or 17 rakaah.
  • Tarawih prayers is also an exciting physical activity your strength. Try to calculate how many calories you burn when you do 20 rakaah Tarawih prayers? On average, one burns 4 calories performing one rakaah.
  • Did you know that you can burn 50-80 calories during one hour of reading? Read the Quran in wherever you are. It keeps you alert and your mind can also be sharpened.

2. Eat at appropriate amount of calorie

  • Taking of 1200-2000 calories per day
  • While fasting, we still have to calculate in detail the calorie content of each food. Do not forget two dates contain at least 45 calories. If you take 10 dates, you have to take at least 225 calories.
  • Eat as usual. Eat moderately. No need to exaggerate your diet during fasting.

3. Breaking fast with easy-lose-weight food

  • Eat fruits that contain lots of fiber and vitamins
  • Eat foods high in fiber and protein to balance blood sugar, eliminates hunger and excessive eating
  • Avoid fried and greasy

4. Control the rate of water intake

  • Drink with content appropriate to the weight
  • Avoid salty foods because it can increase thirst during the day
  • Avoid icy drink or drink excessively during the break
  • However you need to drink a lot to ensure you remain hydrated during the day

5. Plan your diet

  • Morning wake up and take enough food and drink for a day of fasting supplies
  • Buy and prepare nutritious food and adequate bersahur rates

Prophet s.a.w’s Favorite Dates

Which will you choose first to break the fast with a variety of dishes spread on your dining table? Drinks? Cakes? Fruits? Rice with fish? Biscuits? Dates? Or other than those listed?

Of course the dates, right? That’s what our Prophet encouraged to break the fast with.  Dates contain high amounts of natural sugars, but they are low-glycemic index food and do not increase blood sugar levels after they eaten. If there is no date, plain water is the second best. Basically, the scientific name for dates is Phonex dactylifera and can be eaten cooked or raw. There are many benefits that can be found in dates:

Dates contain lots of nutrients and vitamins that are needed by our body. The taste is so naturally sweet that it is always misinterpreted as an artificial-sugar-contained.

The amount of protein contain in a date is approximately 1.8 to 2.0%, for fiber is 2.0% to 4.0%, while sugar contains 50% to 57% glucose. This high amount of fiber High is good for bowel system. Dates are also rich in potassium and several other minerals. Potassium is an electrolyte that will re-balance the water in our body when we are insufficient of water, especially during fasting. Potassium also helps in maintaining the nervous system and building muscles which, includes the heart muscle .

Be Inspired : A Young Fitness Trainer Shares her Routine


Chelsea Panzarella, a beautiful soul born and raised in Rhode Island, USA. Raised with no religion but considered herself a non-practicing Christian. Alhamdulillah, she converted to Islam about 6-7 months ago. She is a fitness trainer.

We are honored to be given the opportunity to interview Chealsea where she shares her active lifestyle with us.

  1. What do you do before becoming fitness trainer?
    After graduating college, I took some time off before finding a job. I participated in a fitness competition and fell in love with the lifestyle clean eating and heavy weight lifting. I decided that I wanted to become a Personal Trainer to help inspire other to love fitness as much as I did.
  2. What motivates you to be a trainer?
    My own experience and love of health and fitness motivates me to be a trainer. I learned a lot about lifting weights and building muscle in order to lose and/or maintain weight. I’ve found that many women are scared of weights and have misconceptions of becoming too bulky. I want to educate them on the importance of both cardio and weight lifting. I want to inspire women to take control of their health in the right way!
  3. What does the training involve? biking? gym? Yoga?
    My training programs consist of nutrition plans and workout plans. Nutrition is based on whole, fresh foods and proper macronutrient balance (calories, lean protein, healthy fats, complex carbs). Exercise is based upon their fitness level, experience, and whether they workout at home or at a gym. It is typically a mix of weight training and cardio. I like to work with them to help them find exercises that they love because I want it to be enjoyable. My programs run 12 or 16 weeks in length, the reason being that I want it to become a lifestyle for them rather than a short term diet and workout program. I consistently communicate with clients and do weigh in’s every other week. Nutrition and workout plans change every 4 weeks based upon their progress. I also set up 1 month challenges in order to help people jumpstart their goals.
  4. Is it hard to get the Muslims to join your program?
    My businee is relatively new so I can’t really say for sure as I am still working on building that initial client base. I feel like many of the Muslim women really want to become healthier but they are confused about what health really means, or they don’t know where to start. I have a lot of people who ask for advice or about my programs but they have a hard time making that initial step and actually going for it.
  5. What is your opinion working out indoors and outdoors? Which do u prefer?
    For me personally I mostly workout indoors. I do a lot of heavy weight lifting as well as fitness classes like zumba, spin, and kickboxing so the gym is really where I get most of my exercise done. I also like the treadmill and elliptical because it allows be to do sprints without being able to slow down my pace. I do like to get outside once a week (when the weather permits) either for a distance run or a track workout.
  6. What is the obstacle of being a muslim trainer for you?
    The hardest part is not being able to show my progress. I think one of the biggest things people want to see in a trainer is that they are fit. I’ve had to find some new and creative way to post about my progress and knowledge. I have recently started posting some at home workouts which I think people are really enjoying!
  7. What is your daily workout routine like?
    As of right now I’m lifting 4 days a week. I alternate between chest/triceps, back/biceps, legs, shoulders/abs. Then I do 6 days a week of cardio. On weight days I do weights first then usually go to a workout class. On just cardio days I’ll usually do a HIIT (as shared below) workout.
  8. Are there any changes on your workout routine and diet after the conversion?
    A little bit but not too much. I’ve never been a fan of pork so Alhamdulillah that wasn’t hard for me to cut out! I’ve had to find some alternative ways to do some of the exercises I was used to because the new women’s gym, although it’s amazing, it doesn’t have all of the machines that a mixed gym would have. I’m still working on learning more about halal and sunnah foods, I have started eating a lot more honey and dates! I have also decided, starting this week actually, that I will begin to fast once per week. I need to prepare for my first ever Ramadan! I’ve also read that fasting has great health benefits so I’m super excited to implement this into my nutritional regimen.
  9. Do you take extra supplement for your health?
    I do take supplements but I like to keep them minimal and basic because nutrition is the most important part and supplements are only enhancers. I do, however, take multivitamins, fish oil, whey protein, and meal replacement shakes through Herbalife.
  10. Do you find the conversion helps you in terms of fitness?
    ABSOLUTELY! In so many ways I don’t know if I can write them all. Until I began covering up I never realized how much I was actually doing it for looks. Since wearing hijab, fitness is so much more to me. It is about feeling energized and accomplished, it is about inspiring others rather than just showing off, it’s about connecting with Muslimah’s around the world through health, it is about one day having kids and being able to keep up with them, and most importantly it’s about keeping this body that Allah has blessed me with healthy for as long as I can!

HIIT (high intensity interval training) is a higher degree of interval training where one would perform short bursts of very high intensity exercises followed by a somewhat larger, smaller or equal period of active rest. HIIT training helps to improve cardiovascular health, metabolism, and intensifies the fat burning process.

This is a bodyweight workout that can be done outside, in the home, or in a gym.

You will perform 3 sets of the exercises grouped together. For example, you will complete each exercise in the first box once (25 bodyweight squats, 25 jump squats, pushups to failure, and 25 crunches, without rest in between…that equals one set. Women: Best Workout for Different Type of Body

Most of the body shape comes from their genes and their common activities. Sometimes its hard to find a way to perfect them but still we have ways to lessen the flaws of body shape. The type of body shapes are pear shape, apple shape, rectangular or straight shape and hour glass shape. Majority for woman body shape is a pear shape.

Pear Shape

This shape is the most common shape of body for women. People who has pear shape of body has a bigger lower part of their body than the upper part. Most pears shape people have the most killer waistlines. This type of body can be seen on celebrities like Iggy Azalea and Beyonce Knowles.

Typical trouble: Imbalance body, big butt, thighs

What to do: For this body shape, you need to focus on the lower part of the body by practising cardio. No resistance are needed as this will bulk up further the lower part. One of the ways is just to walk on a flat surface. This practise is combined with a shoulder presses in helping to build shoulder and arms muscle to balance out your larger lower body. It is best to work it out up to 45 minutes five days per week.

Apple

Apples are those who have bigger part in the middle and have a thicker waist, especially in comparison to their hips and shoulders. This type of body usually have small upper body and lower body. Only the tummy are obviously left seen.

Typical trouble: Waistline and belly

What to do: Three or four days per week of high-intensity cardio workout and aerobic exercise would be ideal workouts to loosen and tighten around waistline and belly muscles. You could wither walk or jog, or for best result use the elliptical machine on moderate resistance. This helps to burn tummy fat while building leg muscles. When strong enough, continue with squats to work the legs and core.  

Straight

Straight body shape people has a balance body from top to toe without any curves. This kind of people do not need to much to worry if they gain a little bit of weight as it will still gain weight in balance body shape, not worrying to control certain parts of body. Celebrities that owns this type of body are Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman.

Typical trouble: It has no curves.

What to do: For those who has straight frame but gain weight, they may want to start from any cardio to help burn fat. Those who are already skinny but wants a little bit of curves, needs to work on mucsle-building their upper and lower body. This can be done with shoulder presses, squats, bicep and tricep workouts.

Hourglass Figure

Hourglass figure, a women’s dream to own. The same size of bust and hips with smaller waist than the bust. It is also known as “wasp waist”, a figure embraced by Mariah Carey and Salma Hayek. 

Typical trouble: Upper arms, belly and thighs

What to do: Despite having the best women figure, there are also downside of it which is a high-percentage gaining weight in the most noticeable parts: upper arms, belly and thighs. For this figure, you just need to rotate the challenges routine on different muscles in order to maintain the body balance. Exercise for two to three days per week for at least 30 minutes. Zumba class would be suitable enjoying exercise in maintaining body balance.

Get Up And Start Working On It

If you really want the body you desire you really have to work for it. Sitting and just wishing it will not only gain you nothing but also expanding your lower part.
