Modest Activewear for International Games

Even though modest clothing is not new, many do not understand what it is. Based on a recent article on freemalaysiatoday – “A cynical suggestions for SEA GAMES 2017 sports attire for Malaysian contingent”, perhaps there is lack of understanding, creativity or design knowledge that result to such unappealing designs.

So here’s a list about modest wear.

It is not related to any religion or believe.
It signifies moderation and humility
It is not equals to hijab or robe/jubah
It is for all types of body shape
It is a choice of comfort or identity
It does not necessary affect performance

It Started Modestly

Modest wear for sports is not new. In fact, performance sports started modestly, and went less and less in fabric, but improved quality.

Olympians, be it male or female had loose outfits and more fabric on their skin back then. Over time, the fabric gets lesser and designs tighter, not due to cost constraints, but performance and practical reasons. Some changes in dress code raised eyebrows and community uproared every time they were introduced. You can read more about the evolution of sportswear at the Olympics here.

Swimming suits for example was introduced less than 100 years ago in modest designs. You can read more here.
It has evolved into many designs and choices, both for performance and leisure.

Then Tight & Shrink

Today, majority sportswear designs are tight and use less fabric. There is not much of a design choice offered for performance sports.

However, with the advancement of technology in textile industry, sports fabrics are getting more and more lightweight with improvements in moisture management. With this, there are opportunities to design modest sportswear even for performance.

1. Jazri Riada

Previous Riada collection was to cater for pear, spoon and diamond body shapes. At that point, we put a lot of attention to cover areas below waist level. The new Jazri Riada in the Spring collection is for apple, inverted triangle, hourglass, rectangle and straight body shapes. So if you don’t like it loose below waist area, and wider on the top, Jazri would be the choice for you.

The next collection consists of active-wear for riada range (sports casual), ultra range (performance wear) and a new category to-be-announced soon.

Firefighter Cyberjaya Night Half Marathon – Where we celebrated fast Hijabistas

At the Firefighter Cyberjaya Night Half Marathon, we gave a surprise to the fastest hijabista! Intan Suraya, who is our marathon runner also model presented the small token to the two 10 km winners at the end of the run! Here is Azlina, flanked by the Firefighter mascot and Intan Suraya. We were not able to take the picture of the second winner, Cik Najmi unfortunately.

Intan Suraya completed her 21km run swiftly despite unwell the day before. She took it slow, but she made it. We were there to support our sisters and friends who participated in the night run. It was a cool night after a heavy downpour not long before the run flagged off. This was also the Intan’s first run in a complete Nashata activewear. She wore the Optimal Ultra Set : Amin Hijab, ultra A-cut top and the skirt compression pants – all specially designed for active muslimah.

We supported many sisters along the way and surprised to see Jaslinda Jasmani finishing her run pretty fast and confidently. We saw more sisters finishing pretty early too but they were all too fast to be captured on camera lenses at night. Jaslinda is clearly UNSTOPPABLE. She smiled widely as she leaped with a big smile at the finishing line.

Many said it was a tough run, especially when they had to climb the hill along the road where the Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission was. Running along dark roads was quite challenging especially for women.

But all in all, we saw our sisters and friends all smiling ear to ear. Here are some pictures of our happy runner sisters.

We were delighted to see Karen Loh, the Malaysia Women Marathon founder at the run. She was among the top 4 finisher for the half marathon.

It fits like a glove and is specially designed to give you comfort while performing outdoor and indoor activities. Design Philosophy

Modest yet Sporty is the look you are going to get from Amin Hijab! The stripe along the face is to enhance unique features of Asian women. The stripe meets at chest to give slimming effect on your body. The hijab gives good chest covering as the front length is 41 cm long and 28 cm wide. The design falls nicely on your shoulder, giving free movement for arms and hands without compromising modestly.

Color Choice

We offer a choice of black base with a dark grey stripe and dark grey with a black stripe. We recommended the lighter color for outdoor use like marathon, running, cycling and trailing and black for indoor activities like aerobics and zumba.

Although the material dries fast, sweat marks on the grey base hijab can be evident.

Reflective logo

The reflective logo is on the back of the hijab. It is small but ample to give you safety feature when you run at night. If you wear Nashata’s skirts pants and ultra top, you will get better safety feature of a night run; two reflectors in front and two at the back

Care

We recommend hand wash for all our products. To protect the reflective logo, we suggest you to wash the hijab inside out. You can fold or roll it and keep it in your bag.

Ultra Set was Put To Test @ Penang National Park

Ultra Range Products : Full Support Sports Bra, Compression Arm Sleeves, Skirt Compression Pants and the Ultra A-Cut Top are designed for performance. They were put to test at a two-day trailing activities at Penang National Park during Mother’s Day weekend.

Day 1 (Saturday) :

Attire : Amin Hijab, Black Ultra A-Cut Top, Pink Skirt Compression Pants, Nashata’s Fushia Sports Bag

2.9 km trail from Penang National Park Entrance to Monkey Beach. Time taken – 50 minutes.
What do you get to see apart from big rocks and sea view along the way? BIG monitor lizard, Murai Batu, White Sea Eagle, Colorful Butterflies, Mengkuang Laut, Orange Fungus & USM Research Station
1.2 km trail from Monkey Beach to Muka Head Light House. It was a steep walk up the hill, but the view from the light house was amazing. Time taken – 1 hour
What do you get to see, apart from steep stairway? ‘Strings of Pink Avatar Flower’, on the tree and on the ground, White Sea Eagles when you reach the top. The light house was built in 1883. It has a marvelous view of the hill and the sea.
1.2 km trail back from Muka Head Light House to Monkey Beach. Walking down was easy.

What do you get to see? Fish farms and stationary boats where tourist fish

Day 2 (Sunday)

Attire : Amin Hijab, Grey Ultra A-Cut Top, Black Skirt Compression Pants, Nashata Full Support Sports Bra & Nashata’s Fushia Sports Bag

2.9 km trail from Penang National Park Entrance to Kerancut Beach. Time taken – 55 minutes.
What do you get to see ? 5 creeks, marked trees, colorful butterflies and pink avatar flowers.
Upon reaching Kerancut Beach, you will see a short hanging bridge bridge that goes across the Meromictic Lake.
Kerancut Beach apparently is famous for jelly fishes and you can’t swim there. No don’t even dare!
As you walk along the beach, you will pass a jetty and the Turtle Sanctuary is right after that. You can walk on the jetty to see plenty jelly fishes in the water.
What do you get to see at the Turtle Sanctuary? Hatchery area, bins of baby turtles and medium size turtles, Turtle info-center and more Murai Batu birds
At the 2.9 km trail back, you may bump into slithery animals like snakes and an Orange Flower with black seeds on its petals. Time taken :1 hour

So what were to THUMBS up about trailing in Nashata Outfit?

You don’t get bugs bite! The good thing about trailing in long sleeves, long pants and a sports hijab on is that you need not use insect repellent. Your body is protected.
All the items, including the sports bra are made of light weight and anti-bacterial fabric, hence no odor and fast to dry throughout and after your activities.
The extended sleeves, covering half of you palm protect your palm when you need to do rope work or when you hold on to branches along the way. There are ropes at both trails.
Not only that, I use palm to wipe your nose and sweat along the way.
Phone and important small items are safely secured on the back of Skirt Compression Pants and the compression pants keep you knees and thighs firm. I can’t feel carrying a phone at your back.
The Amin Hijab, to be released end of this month was put to another TEST. The combination of breathable fabric and fitted design gives complete comfort! It was dry throughout !
The light weight sports bag was idea for 6 km trail. With phone and important item in the pockets, a small towel, a water bottle, a shirt and a raincoat fit nicely in the bag. The total weight is just like an empty bag-pack! But running with the bag on is not advisable.
