Celebrating Womanhood : We Pledge To Help Women Achieve Their Fitness Goals

We celebrate the glory of womanhood everyday. But every year on the 8th March, we celebrate the International Women’s Day. In Malaysia, we celebrate fitness for woman at the Malaysia Women Marathon on the 6th March 2016. There is also Penang Zumba Carnival 2016 happening a day earlier, 5th March 2016, at the Stadium Batu Kawan, Penang.

In supporting the International Women’s Day, here’s what the people at Nashata are going to do:

1. SPECIAL OFFERS
celebrating womanhood

At the store front, we are offering ultra products for fit ladies up to 50% discount. This includes the heather tops, mumtaz hijab and amin extended hijab. The special prices are valid from now until 13th March 2016. Also available at MWM Expo on the 4th & 5th March at Rimbayu.

Here are some suggested tops that go well with the MWM running tee.

2. OUR PLEDGE : To Help Women Achieve Their Fitness Goals

This year we are sponsoring 8 runners from Malaysia & Singapore to run the Full Marathon (42 km) at MWM. These are ladies and pacer from various backgrounds and ages but with a common determination to run. Here are the reasons why running a full marathon is important to these awesome runners and how running has helped them in their career and daily life.

  • Ainaa Samsudin, a business analyst
I run full marathon to challenge myself. Besides building physical strength, I am also training my willpower and mental limits to prove to myself that sometimes it’s just mind over matter. My personal goal at MWM is to finish within the cut off time. Running has helped me in my career by improving how I prioritize and manage time. I learn what is really important to me and I build a schedule to achieve my goals. The corporate world and running scene in Malaysia are not very big and these 2 fields tend to overlap so it’s helpful to have the same interest.

Azlina & Aina During LSD Training Together

Azlina & Aina During LSD Training Together

  • Azlina Idris , a full time mom
I love to challenge myself and push myself out of my comfort zone. To train for a Full Marathon (FM) is not an easy task; it takes sacrifice, determination and physical and mental strength. Becoming a marathoner has been one of my most proudest moment, aside from being a wife and a mom.
My goal at MWM is to achieve a Personal Best (PB) would be great but seeing how this will be my first FM running with my husband, the main goal would be for both of us to complete the run with no injuries and have fun while doing so.
Running has given me a sense of balance. When everything seems a little too much, I go out for a run and the problem/issues suddenly doesn’t seem so daunting. I only wish I had discovered the joys of running when I was still working; maybe I wouldn’t have been so stressed all the time. But better late than never!
  • Nur Nahsuhah Binti Zainal Abdin, a medic student
I love running simply because I love being challenged. When you run 42km with your own time limit, actually you are challenge yourself to do things beyond your limits and it gives you a sense of achievement and satisfaction when you achieve it. This has always teaches me to not give up in every single thing I do and to always believe in myself. Nothing is impossible. The one that can limit you is YOU. Running FM for 5 to 6 hours is not easy and harder in  hot sun..but, what that I learn along the journey is worth the heat. I enjoy  running long hours while being entertained with favourite songs ; it cheers me up in bucket of sweats. MWM is such a great event as it is conducted with much convenience for ladies who want to participate in running events. I would like to complete my run below 5 hours at upcoming MWM. Other than that I would like to be a good example to hijabist ladies, that running modestly will never affect your performance..yup, never. Running never fails to release all those stresses I have to deal with in my  hectic life as a med student. I feel much better after a run. It has helped me to be more confident, positive in many aspects of life and it has widen my network. Running always teaches me to be myself, to be me and stay me. I urge other ladies to set your goals, lace up your shoes, smile proudly to yourself and start running! Because..it does change you in positive way.
Be Inspired by Nahsuhah

The Weekend Runner: FIT Malaysia 2015 10K

I think it’s every runner’s dream to be able to race for free with no entrance fees. After all, running events are getting more expensive these days. Well, your runner’s dream might just come true thanks to FIT Malaysia events. Held over several series in different states across Malaysia, this event features 10K and 5K running, and 30K and 10K of cycling. Yup you heard me right, a 10K race for zero payment. However, if you are not up for running, there is also martial art demonstration, obstacle challenges, and zumba at the main stage area.

IMG_1689On your marks, get set, go!

IMG_1690Fancy turning your 10K into an obstacle race instead?

As it was a free event, the number of participants were overwhelming. Parents ran with their strollers, school kids ran with their friends, or elderly couples taking a leisurely stroll. It turned out to be an interesting crowd, so everyone took the opportunity to make small talks along the way. If you ever feel like giving up, there were random people cheering for you along the way to lift your spirits. I think that FIT Malaysia focuses on one of the most important aspects of working out: interaction. People need to feel like they are a part of a community, that they have a support system. Then they are more motivated to successfully complete a run or a work out program.

IMG_1704 IMG_1714No t-shirts were given, but no problem. Running clubs or other communities proudly wore their own t-shirts instead!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetI entered the 10K run and completed it in approx. 1 hour 12 minutes, which was a new personal record for me. Was today’s speedier than usual performance a result of wearing a brand new Mumtaz hijab? If it was, then I need to get more colours too! (Pink Rose, Oxford Blue, and Baby Blue).

IMG_1720

At the end of the day, this event made me re-discover the pure joy of running and nothing else that comes associated with it; no branded t-shirts, no goodie bags, no fancy sponsors. Sometimes all you need in running is high energy, a great crowd, and good company. The best things in life are free – and it probably is true for the case of FIT Malaysia 10K Run.

Until next week,

The Weekend Runner.

Borderless SISTERHOOD via FITNESS : WOW RUN the Pioneer

Women of Wellness (WOW) is a brainchild of Mudzalifah Anuar from Singapore. Started in 2014 with a 5km fun run for all ladies, this year on the 25th October, 7am, WOW RUN 2015 was celebrated in five countries; Singapore | Malaysia | Indonesia | Australia | USA

The theme for this year is Embrace Womanhood.

Mudzalifah @ Race Kit Collection, Singapore

Mudzalifah @ Race Kit Collection, Singapore

In Singapore and Malaysia, the 5 km run was cancelled due to poor air quality as a result of the haze that clouded both Singapore and Greater Kuala Lumpur for many many days. In Malaysia, despite run cancellation, a few other planned activities were moved indoors so that the sisters could enjoy the day. The ladies had zumba, fitness challenges and a dialogue session on women empowerment as shared by Emmy and  The Weekend Runner

In Jakarta, Australia and USA the run kicked off awesomely.

Here are some FACES of WOW SISTERS from WOW RUN 2015. With the different time zones, the run and activities started at 7am accordingly:

  • AUSTRALIA

With all the excitement and activities, we feel WOW RUN should continue as how Mudzalifah aspires it to be.
During the fitness challenges in Malaysia, an ultra marathoner made a significant observation. The ladies could really enjoy themselves and push themselves to do perform fitness activities.

True, some ladies are shy and have certain requirements to perform fitness activities. We should continue to understand their requirements and provide suitable environment for them.

Congrats to all organisers and sisters for making the spirit of fitness among us BORDERLESS.

The Weekend Runner: WOW Run 2015 Malaysia

unnamed

Music was pumping, everyone was smiling, and the air was buzzing with excitement – The haze may have stopped our run, but it can never stop our spirits! It was in everyone’s best health interest that the 5km fun run had to be cancelled for Nashata WOW Run 2015. However, we can still have fun indoors. The Zumba, Fitness Challenge, and Women Empowerment Dialogue proceeded as planned, and everyone had fun.

Zumba was lead by Aida Mohd, a well-known fitness instructor. Thanks to her energetic moves, everyone was panting and sweating by the end of the session. We thought that Zumba would wear out everybody, and there will only be a handful willing to participate in the fitness challenge. We were so wrong! There was even a tie for the burpee challenge! I guess 3 minutes was not enough to wear these strong ladies out.

1781950_541543352670890_5857756829422841750_nWork it, ladies!

1948078_541544599337432_4596086542488002360_nWow, still energetic after Zumba? What did you have for breakfast ladies, a bowl of confidence laced with sugar?

Personally, I felt that the real highlight of the event was the Women Empowerment Dialogue Session. It was a very lively forum session, moderated by Nadiah Tan Abdullah (HR Director, Experian Malaysia), with real and personal stories from Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir (Women’s Right Activist), Dato’ Ng Wan Peng (COO, MDeC), and Karen Loh (Founder, Marathon Women Malaysia). They spoke about:

  • Breaking stereotypes – Women are leaders,  with their own distinct style of leadership. Their role as a leader is important because they set an example for their children. Do not allow these stereotypes to be a limitation on yourself.
  • Women in sports – running as a platform to build confidence and self-esteem, which can be used in the corporate world too.
  • Women in the IT world – the IT world is a good industry for women because of its flexibility and it focuses on talented minds instead of physical strength and attributions. Prove that you can deliver a good work, and you will get noticed for that.
  • Women should learn how to network better – your friends are your potential solutions to your problems too. Network from different fields, as it might be useful for you one day to have a various connections. Plus, use technology too.
  • Women should help each other – as role models, help pave the way for the future generation.

12189098_541547922670433_7039703854587554870_nI am glad that I was given the opportunity to hear from such inspirational people, for they have inspired me to be a COO/CEO and an ultra marathoner too.

We wrapped up the day’s event with prize-giving ceremony to the winners of the Most Creative Photo, Funniest Photo, and Best Wefie.

In conclusion, all of these would not be possible without the support from the ladies behind Nashata. Give these ladies a round of applause for making WOW Run 2015 a huge success!

WOW RUN Malaysia : T-58 Days

The Star MetroRun with Sisterhood 25th October 2015

Kuala Lumpur, 4 August, 2015 – On the 25th October 2015, women from all walks of life will come together and run, zumba and have conversations on leadership in Cyberjaya. Organised and co-sponsored by Nashata, the run is supported by Gorgeous Geeks, Malaysia Women Marathon and Women’s Aid Organisation.

6 Countries, Same Day, Same Time

On the 25th October, 7am, runners from six countries will run 5km together.

Originated from Singapore by Muzdalifah Anuar in 2014 with 1,000 woman runners, the WOW RUN, this year expands to five countries that includes Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine, Australia and the United States of America. When she started the run in 2014, her goal was to promote fitness in Islam.

This year the run is theme #embracewomenhood, Muzdalifah is spreading the love of active lifestyle with other sisters across the globe with the spirit of sisterhood. The run aims to garner and motivate women to lead an active lifestyle together united as sisters in the spirit and vigor of sisterhood, and not as separate nations.

ALL COLORS, ALL CULTURES united by SISTERHOOD

In Malaysia, the run will be officiated by Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. Marina is notable for voicing women’s rights in Malaysia.

According to a study by UK Medical Journal, half of women in Malaysia are overweight or obese, and another study on Obesity Journal states that in Malaysia obesity levels were highest among adults 40–59 years old.

Eda Fuzi, the race director in Malaysia, was once obese and now she runs marathon and ultra-marathons to keep fit. She urges women to pick up running to keep fit as it is the most convenient and easiest sporting activity. “You can run anywhere, anytime as long as you have your running attire and shoes,” says Eda. “Running is for everyone, and because of that, we are bringing together women groups to bring the WOW RUN message across,” she added.

To add more energy into WOW RUN, Aida Mohd, a Zumba instructor will lead the runners through a 30 minutes workout. Also a part-time newscaster, Aida says Zumba is incredibly fun and it is a work out for the body, mind and soul.

Girls can have fun and expand horizon at the WOW RUN. While cooling down after a good workout, listen to aspiring women discussing leadership. Alecia Heng, the President of Gorgeous Geek is putting together a panelist of women leaders to talk about leadership in their respective fields. Among the panelist and host are Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, Nadiah Tan Abdullah and Karen Loh. Alecia says although it was reported on the Malaysia Economic Monitor November 2012 that over 50 percent of all women received a university degree or higher, only 30% women are at senior management level. Women can make it to the top and these fit ladies will share with you how.
Nashata was one of the inaugural sponsor for WOW RUN 2014 in Singapore and this year runners will get again the modest running attire designed by Nashata.

All these exciting activities are at the happening at Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), in Cyberjaya. Other sponsors for the run include Good Virtues Co, Biogrow, Tamek, Curves, Cyberview as well as MDeC.

For more information and to register visit bitly.com/WOWRUN2015MY. There is a corporate rate of RM50. The run is for women age 12 and above but the men are welcomed to come and cheer. Registration closes on the 30th  September 2015.

Active Bumblebees at SCORE RUN 2014

Yellow and Black were the common colors at the SCORE RUN. It looked like thousands of bumblebees were at the Padang Merbok Sunday 8 June 2014. There were only two categories at the fist SCORE Run; 10 km and 15 km. The run, participated by about 3,600 runners was organised by Mantra.

10km SCORE RUN 2014

The first flag-off was at 630am for the 15 km run. Five out of seven Nashata runners joined the 15 km runner slightly late. We later discovered the starting point was further up hill where the bigger Race Arch was. Many others missed the early bumble bee runners as they were waiting around the other race arch area.

By 610 am onwards, the crowd for the 10km run started to build up. There were a few 15 km late runners who got their way through the 10 km crowd and dashed off. Patricia Tan flagged the 10km runners off a couple of mins before 7am and so all the 3,600 runners ran their way through the cool and hilly route along Jalan Parlimen and Bukit Tunku area.

Many of us enjoyed the route as it was a cool and safe, and the roads were nice. Water stations were well managed and paramedics were seen along the way. In fact, a lady fell while running and the paramedics were close-by to give immediate help. Thumbs up for that. We love the happy cameramen from Amateur Sports Team known as RFF. They took awesome moment of happy runners!

The last landmark before the run ended was the Tugu Negara, a few hundred meters before runners grab finisher medals.
All in all, it was a great run.

There are few items would be nice to have:

  •  Visible Clock / Timer
The RFID tag attached  to the bib is not utilized. (at least for us)

RFID BIB

  • Announcement about STARTING point at the main event area
  • We love efforts to safe the planet and love to see more use of recyclable cups at water stations. There were a mix of plastic and paper cups used at water station.

Here are some pictures of happy RUNNERS. To hijabists and sisters out there, keep an active lifestyle like our other sisters. Keep running and stay fit, modestly.

We look forward for more OUTSTANDING sporting events by SCORE. Below are a couple scheduled this year:

Awesome SCORE 2014 @ KLCC!

boothatscore copyWe are back again for a 2nd time!

Men of Steel” adalah pertandingan bina badan yang berlangsung selama 2 hari iaitu 30 Mei (Jumaat) & 1 Jun (Ahad). OPPS!

Brazilian Jiu JitsuBrazilian Jiu Jitsu..
